ISBN 0879101490. “Charles Mingus was one of the greatest talents in the jazz world, as a bassist, bandleader, and composer. Mingus comes to life again through these two memoirs written by two of his friends. This book is a breezy but heartfelt tribute to an irascible talent, a collection as passionate and unruly as its subject…funny, respectful and revealing.” — The New York Times Book Review

I found your book at Rasputin the former Tower Records in Mountain View while picking up “Mingus Ah Um” on cd in preparation for seeing a lecture on and then the Mingus Big Band at Stanford. I love your essay. I hope there is a fungus in me and I am growing if not up not down either. Bell’s Books in their window here also has two of your jazz books which I will have to go snag before some else does.
