The Magic Poetry Bus

buslogo Rick Cortes

The Magic Poetry Bus is a source of “pro-active poetry,” a dramatic approach to the teaching of poetry in the classroom and in the community.

The Bus is a vehicle for the imagination — techniques for learning and loving poems (on-line at our website and in the forthcoming Magic Poetry Bus Travel Book, a handbook for poetry bus riders and drivers).

The Magic Poetry Bus is the official project of Carol Muske-Dukes, as Poet Laureate of the state of California — though The Bus, in partnership with Get Lit and the Get Lit Players, reaches audiences throughout the state of California — and beyond!

Adam David Miller: COCAINE DOES NOT GROW IN THE GHETTO

Friday, November 27th, 2009

_______________________________

Cocaine is not grown in the ghettos,
big drug money not laundered there.
Trees with greenbacks for leaves
decorate streets and alleys.
Carrion birds pluck rotting frames,
smothered grasses wither in dust.
Leached lives teem in these ghettos,
blood siphoned to vases afar.
The yoke on their necks is held tightly
by gold-plated buzzards who soar.

Homeless Blankets

In and Around Dolores Park, San Francisco —
A Photo Essay

“A photo essay on homeless blankets in and around Dolores Park, San Francisco. A project I have been with a few years. Photos, my way of exploring human imprint when the language comes up way short. A poetry without words but a poetry, nevertheless.”
— Stephen Vincent
