Do you like poetry? Do you love jazz? You can’t miss our Jazz Poetry Concert (7:30) on September 11th, in the North Side.
Join Yusef Komunyakaa, the perfect fit for this event. He has often cited jazz as a source of influence and inspiration for his poetry. “I feel blessed that something pulled jazz and poetry together inside me,” he told the Georgia Review in 1992.
Komunyakaa is a critically acclaimed writer, scholar, professor, and Pulitzer Prize winner. The Jazz Poetry Concert is a unique opportunity to see a poet who often weaves together elements of his own life, including memories of serving in the Vietnam War and living in the South prior to the Civil Rights Movement, with the rhythm and language of jazz music.
Read the exclusive Samsonia Way profile on Yusef Komunyakaa, who despite bearing witness to racism, war, and violence over the past six decades, still reserves a resilient hope for America.
